SafetyatSea started trading in 1999 as a University
spin-off company to support the implementation of the
Stockholm Agreement in the North of Europe. The
company soon established itself as the commercial arm
of the Ship Stability Research Centre (SSRC, University
of Strathclyde, Glasgow).
In 2002, and after completing stability upgrades for
more than 65 ferries across Northern Europe,
SafetyatSea expanded its commercial activities into
ship design and consulting marine engineering.
In January 2003 SafetyatSea obtained ISO 9001:2000
for QA accreditation and in March 2004 the company
obtained TickIT for Software.
In April 2005, SafetyatSea moved to its own premises in
Glasgow City Centre. A few months later a site office in
Gdynia (Poland) was set up to support growing activities
in Glasgow.
At the end of 2007, the company employed 17
permanent staff and a number of part time and
independent consultants. Currently, all members of the
management team are shareholders in the company.
